The American shirt of the Vietnam War period

We have long wondered where to find a high quality and comfortable t-shirt. The one that will last a long time, won’t lose its shape but become a favorite thing in the wardrobe. We were lucky to find it in the vintage shop called «Front General Store». Learn more about the store -here- .Now we'll tell you about our find and give some historical background.

 Historical Note.

The earliest T-shirt dates back to sometime between the Spanish–American War and 1913, when the U.S. Navy began issuing them as undergarments.

The word T-shirt became part of American English by the 1920s, and appeared in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Following World War II, it became common to see veterans wearing their uniform trousers with their T-shirts as casual clothing. The shirts became even more popular in the 1950s after Marlon Brando wore one in A Streetcar Named Desire, finally achieving status as fashionable, stand-alone, outerwear garments. Often boys wore them while doing chores and playing outside, eventually opening up the idea of wearing them as general-purpose casual clothing.

The T-shirt was a real find !

As the store owner Chisato told us these T-shirts were made exclusively for American soldiers during the war with Vietnam. Given its purpose, the shirt certainly has great fabric properties (high air permeability, durability , high level of hygiene) and excellent processing quality! Very soft and pleasant to the body the T-shirt has a bit of a plushy structure, excellent drape and does not crumple .

We definitely decided to repeat the design and tried to find the most similar properties of the fabric for our sample. Our main task is to develop high quality products, therefore this vintage sample has special value for us.
